Today Target and Trader Joe’s recalled 14,860 pounds of hummus that may have been infected with listeria monocytogenes, just days after the USDA recalled 1.8 million pounds of ground beef due to possible E coli contamination.

During routine testing done by the Texas Department of Health, Lansal, Inc, the company that produces Target’s Archer Farms Traditional Hummus, voluntarily pulled their product from the shelves. While there was no reported illness, it can cause serious illness in children and elderly, including fever, muscle ache, headache, still neck, and confusion, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

On Monday, the USDA announced a recall on ground beef that contained the E coli virus after 11 cases of E coli illnesses were reported. The infected beef was said to have been distributed to restaurants in Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. After further investigation, the USDA, today, announced which stores had received the infected ground beef.

What if there was a mass recall on a product and your company sold that product or used part of that product to produce a different product. Does your company have the traceability and tracking necessary to undergo a large recall?

QStock Inventory Solution

QStock Inventory software tracks items as they enter the workspace, where they go within the workspace, and where they go when they leave the workspace. Having that type visibility and traceability will help when a recall happens.

The software is also designed to track the items as they are used to produce other products. For instance, if you bake cakes and there is an egg recall, you are able to enter the serial number into the software and it will tell you exactly what finished products those bad eggs went into and who purchased those cakes. From there, it is easier to contact them to inform them of the recall.
